Experienced Dentist explains the process and options for getting dentures

Denture materials and technologies have come a long way in the last few decades, and today’s dentures barely resemble the dentures of your grandparents’ generation. At The DentaLink in Ballwin andSt. Louis, Missouri, dentist Dr. Allan Link has been trained in the specialized Columbia Denture technique. This involves taking strategic measurements of how your jaw works and offering patients a better fit and a more natural appearance.

Denture options to meet your needs

Each patient has unique needs and preferences, and we are proud to offer a wide variety of options to help you achieve the attractive, functional smile you deserve.

  • Conventional dentures are an affordable option for patients who need to replace anywhere from a few teeth to a full arch of teeth. Full dentures are held in place with natural suction or denture adhesives, while partial dentures that replace only a few teeth typically clip into place with clasps on your remaining teeth.
  • Implant-supported dentures are a great way to add stability and functionality to your denture to avoid issues such as slipping while you eat and speak. Because the dentures are permanently affixed in place, you are free to continue enjoying all of your favorite foods. Even better, the implants help stimulate your jawbone so that it does not begin to deteriorate over time as it typically does after tooth loss. As few as four implants can be used to replace an entire dental arch.

Getting dentures placed

The process for getting dentures placed varies depending on whether you choose conventional or implant-supported dentures. In general, the first step is to take measurements and prepare your mouth for dentures. We will take dental impressions and precise measurements of your teeth and jaw so that your denture has the perfect fit. If you are having implants placed, that will occur first so that your jaw has time to heal before we take measurements because the healing process can cause your tissues to change shape slightly. Then, your dentures will be created with a wax base that sits loosely on your jaw, enabling us to make any adjustments needed for the right fit and size. In the final step, your dentures will be attached to their permanent base, and you are free to enjoy your brand new smile!
